Tribes 2 Returns: Time for Serious Nerdery
I am not what you would call a "gamer". I enjoy video games, and perhaps I am a gamer when in front of my computer or XBox. When I power down the device, I cease to be a "gamer" and become something else, like a writer, car-guy, or web developer.
There are a few glimmering exceptions, the most notable being Tribes 2. I cannot communicate how excellent I am in every facet of that long-forgotten pastime. News of its resurrection has me daydreaming of covert infiltrations, fast-paced aerial combat, and the physics behind shooting a chaingun or grenade launcher while flying sideways at 80 miles per hour while wearing a jetpack and boots that allow you do drift or ski on any surface.
It's getting you wet in the pants too. I know.
Warning: the video below is full of really serious gamer-types in heated competition. This will seem completely ridiculous to anyone who has never taken a multiplayer game seriously before. Fast forward past the first 30 seconds to avoid the cheesy introduction.
