Cars for the Cure

A few quick pics from Cars for the Cure in Orlando. If you love the Bugatti Veyron, the Corvette ZR-1, Porsche 911 GT3s and Turbos, you should have been there. I was surprised and delighted to find not one, but three 2001 BMW M Coupes at the show. My adoration for this "bad little M" is no secret, and it was brilliant to see how amazing the 10 year old car looks, even when its neighbors are a Ferrari 430 and a R35 Nissan GT-R.

V10 Audi R8s seemed to be the norm at the show, as were Gallardos, Murcielagos, and F430s. Lesser cars, like the Bentley Continental, Rolls Royce Ghost and Phantom, and the Aston Martin DBS all had to take positions at the fringes of the exhibition. It might have been to avoid the all-you-can-drink beer garden in the heart of the show, which was conveniently right next to a group of volunteers performing free DUI tests. An interesting social experiment.

Sadly, in my opinion, the show wasn't attended by throngs of car-people, but merely throngs of people. While this did much to educate the layperson about how badass the SL63 AMG is and what flat black paint is supposed to look like, the historical significance of the air-cooled 911s and Shelby Cobras was lost on them. Perhaps this was not so at the East end of the show, where the world-renown tuners from Titan Motorsport and customizers from Audio Excellence displayed the right way to blow cash and go fast.
