Drifting

Will Roegge

Have you ever made a mental note to check someone's website out, but procrastinate for months, all the while knowing you're missing out on something amazing? @willroegge has been sitting in my Twitter list since last October.

Hearing stories of amazing drift edits and pro camerawork, I was attracted to Will's work because I happen to do some video work myself—boring, shitty video that involves talking to people you've never heard of, about things you don't give a damn about. Having no choice of subject or influence as DP, I love to dream of what I'd could accomplish on my own.

MR-S Drift Damage Again!

MR2 Drift Damage

Today has not been a very good day. It began with an extremely intricate task at work, that was beset by technical difficulties that made even the simplest tasks impossible. The onset of new tax laws cutting into about $30 of my weekly paycheck was certainly unwelcome, and even the ATM I wanted to use to deposit said check was out of order. The guy who normally cuts my hair quit and the gas station around the corner from my house was out of order.

MR2 Drift Damage: Battle Scars

Look on my works, ye mighty, and dispair!

I think this is how mercenaries feel after they've been grazed by their first bullet.

This was easily the longest drift session I've ever had. I took the time to find a spot on google maps that would suit my purposes: a 2-lane 90° curve that terminates with a big concrete apron on one end, and a long straight on the other.

Florida Drift Mega-Gallery

Full event recap to follow. Needless to say, this Florida Drift event was a great experience to see what drifters in this area are doing, and just how far behind I am. It's awesome to see so many other Toyota guys drifting unconventional vehicles very well. Despite two event stopping crashes, everything went pretty smoothly. The Ter Tech organizers were pretty helpful, although an announcer would have been really nice, especially considering that some people (i.e. me) didn't know anyone there.

Orlando Drifting

Orlando S13 Drifters

Since I'm still buzzing on my recent advancements with my favorite pastime, I think it's only appropriate to show some of the cool dudes that drift in Orlando.

If you want to meet up with drifters in Orlando, be sure to come to one of the drift practices in Orlando speed world, or a Florida Drift Championship Series event.

I can drift an MR2!

I can't even begin to express the pure electricity I'm feeling right now. I've been very concerned with my drifting efforts to this point, as a majority of my amusement has been tied to power-over drifting (a.k.a powersliding) well after the apex of a turn. To me, this isn't really drifting at all, and I'd become very frustrated when trying to emulate the practice menu of drift bible.

Atlanta, Video Cocaine, and Half-Eaten Toast

I can't even begin to tell you how exhausted I am right now. I spent last week in Atlanta, GA filming Furniture Decorating's first big story, a furniture show called AmericasMart.

As I expected, I was able to meet some awesome people. Barry Dixon, Mike Howarth, Kathi Cunningham, and Steve Papevies are all gurus in their respective niches, and wonderful people to talk to. They remind me why I dabbled in interior design to begin with.

Dorifto?

As some of you know, I've been trying to push the limits of myself, and my MR-S, on the deserted backroads of Orlando for months now. Learning to control my "undriftable" car and developing some sort of reliabilty in my performace has been... well... elusive.

I have pitch black video of my latest practice, which I am unsure if I will upload for your enjoyment. I can deliver a short screenplay for those who are interested:
